What is Bafe?
BAFE develops schemes, which are sets of competency criteria, that UKAS* Accredited Certification Bodies use to assess companies providing specific fire safety services. Companies can be assessed for their competency providing fire risk assessments, fire alarm services, emergency lighting, portable fire extinguisher maintenance, fixed gaseous extinguishing systems and kitchen suppression/extinguishing systems. New schemes to help keep any risks manageable are being developed based on industry and end-user demand and available standards.
Whether you require the design and installation of a fire alarm or emergency lighting system, need your fire extinguishers servicing or more, a BAFE Registered company can help and offer guidance. We deliver a free search tool that can locate third-party certificated providers near you.

What is LPS 1014?
LPS 1014 is operated by LPCB (part of BRE Global Limited) and was launched in 1993. It requires single point responsibility for the design, installation and commissioning of fire alarm systems. To be eligible to apply for LPS 1014 certification, a company must have at least two years’ experience in the fire alarm systems industry and must have installed at least 8 fire alarm systems. Companies that do not meet this criterion can apply for provisional approval, a recent addition to the LPS 1014 scheme.

Provisionally approved companies are closely monitored until they meet the criteria for full approval. All companies joining the LPS 1014 scheme must prove their competence to design, install (using either sub-contractors or own staff), commission and service fire alarm systems. LPS 1014 approved companies are required to issue LPS 1014 Certificates of Conformity for each fire alarm system that they install.

What is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is the international standard for a quality management system (“QMS”). In order to be certified to ISO 9001, a company must follow the requirements set forth in the ISO 9001 Standard. The standard is designed to help companies at many levels, including a focus on customer requirements, improving leadership within the company, finding ways to continually improve, and more.
There are several different documents in the ISO 9000 family of standards, but ISO 9001 is the only standard in the 9000 series that requires certification. Typically, an entire organization will seek certification, but the scope of the QMS can be tailored to improve performance at a particular facility or department. The current version is ISO 9001:2015, which was published in September of 2015 (thus the :2015).
